Brief Description:

The Program and Volunteer Coordinator-Council on Aging for the City of Leominster is responsible for coordinating, supervising and scheduling outreach, social, recreational and educational programs offered through the Council on Aging.  Assume responsibility of managing the daily operations of the Leominster Senior Center programs.  The Program and Volunteer coordinator works under the supervision of the Director.  Specific responsibilities are as follows:

Provide a variety of center-based activities/programs/services that enhance socialization, recreational, educational and health-related needs of the senior population.  Assist in setting up and breaking down for daily programs.  Develop and implement programs as requested by the Director.

Coordinate programs with outside agencies that will assist in educating the seniors with their health, educational, and financial needs.

Develop programs and tasks where volunteer assistance is helpful in collaboration with the Director and the COA Board.

Foster an atmosphere of welcome at the Senior Center by being available to seniors, scheduling the use of rooms and oversee updating of bulletin boards and handouts available throughout building.

Recruit and assign volunteers to fill needed positions on the basis of program needs and volunteer interests/skills.  Supervise volunteers ensuring adequate technical assistance, training and support.

Act as chairperson of the Outreach Department.  Coordinate "Senior Issues" Discussion Group, website for COA senior center, and publicity to local publications.

Assist with answering incoming calls, taking messages, scheduling transportation, greeting visitors and families and directing them to the appropriate staff, program, and service.  Provide tours of the building to new participants.

Represent the Council on Aging at provider/community meetings.

Assists the Director in producing a monthly newsletter that provides information regarding programs and services offered and up-to-date information to the Leominster Senior Center participants.  Coordinate the distribution of the newsletter to the community.

Provide monthly reports of services provided for seniors and volunteer statistics to the Director and the Leominster COA.

Assist with all other tasks as requested by Director of the Leominster COA.

Job Prerequisites:

High School diploma; two to three years of customer services and office experience; positive experience working with senior citizens preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skilled in various computer applications with advanced abilities in desktop publishing, Proficiency in Microsoft Office.  Well versed in a variety of social media applicaitons including Facebook and Twitter.  Ability to deal effectively and appropriately with the general public, town offices and other members of the community; ability to oversee volunteers and other personnel effectively when needed; ability to communicate clearly and consisely, orally and in writing.

Minimal physical effort generally required for work performed in the office.  General tasks require moving/transporting objects and materials of moderate weight (10-20 pounds). Position requires frequent standing and walking.
