Rockwell Pond Study

Dear Local Resident,                                                                                  September 1, 2003

The City of Leominster Environmental Services with the support from Weston & Sampson Engineers has just completed a Water Quality Study on Rockwell Pond, which sits in your downtown area. The purpose of this study was to fully understand what has caused water quality problems in the pond in the past and find solutions to these problems. Rockwell Pond has a high aesthetic value to your community and should be a focus of concern for residents like yourself. As the health of the pond increases so does the environment that surrounds it. This could lead to increased land values, a better pond for recreational activities, and a more enjoyable neighborhood. Through cooperation with landowners, municipal water supply operators and town officials the hope is that Rockwell Pond can be healthfully managed so that it can become the pristine water body that it once was.

Due to your proximity to Rockwell Pond you have been selected as a resident who could play a major role in the ongoing success of this project, towards protecting this very important water body. Enclosed in this folder are a series of Best Management Practices (BMP’s) that have been proven to work in protecting surface water bodies. In addition to the enclosed material we have included a bibliography of Internet pages that will provide even more detailed information. We ask that you look over these practices and adopt those practices that apply to you and your land. By doing this we hope that you will add value to your land and protect a vital resource. Remember, we will all benefit from a cleaner, healthier water body, from both an aesthetic and functional perspective. We hope that with support from local residents like yourself the City of Leominster and Weston & Sampson can make this project a worth while endeavor. Should you have any questions about the study or land use practices you can undertake, please do not hesitate to contact Matt Marro at the City of Leominster Environmental Services, (888) 435-5999.

Sincerely,
Matt Marro
