Ice Awls / Ice Claws
Ice awls are an ice safety tool that you can carry with you, that stick in the ice to provide traction so you can pull yourself to safety in case you break through. You can also slide them to someone who has broken through the ice.
As of Wednesday, January 26th, 2022, the ice at Barrett Pond is 11" thick.
Listed ice depth is an average taken from test holes in only a couple of locations on the Pond and is not meant to be used as a gauge for the entire pond, since ice does not form in a uniform manner. Ice will be thinner at the dam and at stream inlets.
